March 9th’s presenter is ECON Ph.D. graduate student Angela Mensah. The title of her presentation is: “A Dynamic Model of Cement Production Externalities on Agricultural Soil and Human Health in a Developing Country.”

Abstract: Cement dust pollution on farmlands poses threat to the survival of crops and livelihood of smallholder farmers. Many of these social costs are not internalised, thus widening the poverty and food security gap of these smallholder farming communities. This paper develops a theoretical model for the optimal tax required to internalise the welfare and health cost to farmers.
